What is the John Barnes’ Method of

Myofascial Release?

The John Barnes’ Method of Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique practiced by license massage therapists and other professional therapists with a license to touch. Myofacial Release is NOT deep tissue massage. Myofascial Release is “corrective/restorative bodywork”. The John Barnes’ technique involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to reduce pain and increase range of motion. Each technique lasts about 5 minutes. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate. As a client of Andover Myofascial Release , you will have a thorough intake and evaluation that will include a postural analysis. Understanding your body’s current state, posture and alignment, will help give direction as we create your treatment plan which will include self care techniques you can do at home, in-between sessions.
