Healing is like participating in a Tough Mudder!
I’ll start off by saying, healing is NOT logical.
Healing IS NOT linear.
Healing IS messy.
Healing IS emotional.
Healing is like participating in a TOUGH MUDDER! (If you are not sure what that is give it a google!)
I know this firsthand. As a therapist.
I know this firsthand. As a patient.
We have pain, and we want to reverse it. We want to be ourself functioning at 100%. We just want to be done with being in pain!
Sometimes the pain we feel happened in an instant!
We experienced a trauma. BAM! We know the date, the time and exactly what happened. What I like to call the “oh Fu!k “ moment.
Sometimes the pain we feel snowballed overtime and we woke up one morning and said WTF. There were signs. Our body signaled a few red flags. We didnt see them or feel them or we simply ignored them(we usually ignore them). We just kept pushing until we couldn’t push anymore. The body just shutdown.
No matter HOW we got to that moment in time where we released we felt pain or discomfort and knew we needed relief from pain, the process to healing will not be linear.
Healing is like participating in a Tough Mudder. It is messy. Full of mud. Running. Crawling. Jumping. Climbing. Swinging.
The difference between Tough Mudder and healing is we didn’t sign up for the race. We have never trained to heal. We are not prepared for this “race”. Healing is not a race. There is no guide to healing.
Healing will be messy. Full of mud. Running. Crawling. Jumping. Climbing. Swinging.
But in the healing kind of way!
Know that you are seen. Know that you are supported.
Acknowledge progress. all progress. I will talk more about progress in a future post!
