Some of the more frequently asked questions!
Is MFR similar to deep tissue massage?
No!! MFR very different from deep tissue massage.
Myofascial Release uses no force, lotions or oils. The techniques are long, sustained holds for 5-7 minutes. The therapist's hands sink into the tissue, just to the point of resistance. The therapist then holds the technique at that barrier until the fascia is ready to soften and release. Fascia will respond much better to sustained holds, rather than force. Using force causes the body to tense, increasing restrictions in the fascial system.
What should I wear and how should I prepare for an MFR or CST session?
Please bring comfortable, loose-fitting shorts and, for women, a sports bra or bathing suit top to change into.
Additionally, please avoid putting ANYTHING on your skin, such as lotion or oil, prior to your appointment. Lotion and oils can make it challenging to engage the fascia without sliding on the skin.
What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?
You may cancel or change your appointment online up until 48-hours before the start time — just click the button at the bottom of your confirmation email. For cancelations less than 48 hours’ notice, please call or Text as soon as possible.
Cancellations less than 48 hours notice and no-shows will incur a cancellation fee equal to the amount of the full rate of the scheduled session. If I am able to fill your appointment time, the fee will be waived.
